I am going tomorrow night - the 19th with a friend that is looking into the VSG.  We are going to Park Nicollet Methodist for the informational meeting, I am going as one of her support people!  Excited to be asked to go this journey with her, but she has been one of my biggest supporters and I would so do this for ANYONE!!!!

Hoping she gets a good vibe from it all - her husband is also looking into having the procedure done!  God bless them both and hoping for a safe journey for them both.

Thanks!

Feel free to join the Monday morning weigh-in thread.  You don't have to post your actual weight if that makes you uncomfortable (or any weight info at all) but for some of us, posting the changes from week to week helps us honestly evaluate what we're doing and how it affects our goals.

Taking a look at your results from the week before and setting small goals for the week ahead can help you pinpoint any bad habits that may be creeping back into your behavior.  Trust me, it happens to us all!!  Easier to face up to them now and get back on track.

Topic: Monday weigh-in rolls around again--join us!

Hello all:

This is our regular Monday morning call to accountability:  anyone who would like to can participate.  You can post and track your weight with us every Monday, whether you are pre-surgery, post-surgery, in maintenance, trying to get back on track, whatever your stage.  We need to be accountable to ourselves for what we did last week, and what we plan to do this week.  Sometimes being honest with ourselves requires sharing publicly with others .

Anyway, I'll keep posting the thread if people want to play.  It helps me, so I hope it helps others.
Starting weight:  298.4
Last week: 139.8
This week: 140.8
Gain of 1.0 lbs this week

I was quite a bit higher mid-week, but back down a bit again.  Snacking at night is a tough challenge  for me, and I had some external "hits" to the mood this week that made me want to turn to food for comfort.  It's so easy to return to those bad habits.  My strategy since surgery has been to substitute exercise for food, and it sometimes works.

Paul:  running mileage is down again this week--the cycling and swimming is taking up more of my time.  12.6 miles running, plus 24.4 miles on the bike.  Now that you are back, we need to plan a group bike ride!

Gotta keep pushing on the exercise this week, and try to nip the late-night snacking in the bud.

Enjoy, everyone!

Good luck tomorrow!  You'll be fine either way.  Don't be afraid to speak up for what you need.  I needed a pain med change as mine wasn't cutting it and my nurse wouldn't act on it.  Insist you get what you need and ask for a supervisor or doctor if need be.  This time next year you'll be like a whole new person.  :)

Let us know how it goes!

I've had a good experience there.  I almost went with the U of MN but made a better connection with the nurses at PN.  I honestly don't remember the exact details of the beginning of my journey there.  I did start with the info session even though I had been to one at the U of MN.  After attending you can schedule your personal consult and start moving through the (many) hoops.  That will depend largely on your insurance.  They will guide you through the whole process.  My only complaint has been difficulty in scheduling post op appointments and not seeing eye-to-eye with a couple of the NUTS, but I've gotten through it easily.  I had VSG just over a year ago and have lost about 125 pounds.  Good luck to you!

I had my RNY at united just over a month ago through st paul surgeons and i have nothing but wonderful comments about them. My BMI was about the same as yours. The medical makes you jump through loops and do many things by the books but once you do what they ask they will probably approve pretty fast. 7 years is a long time to pass for them to use that against you and for me they only took the past 3 years into consideration. I also had weight problems since I was a child and have had many clinics involved. Luckily they only needed 2-3 year weight history, medication list (current), current health problems. You will also probably have to do 6 months of seeing a dietitian and then will have to see a psychologist. The 6 month nutrition program I went through with st paul surgeons was basically pre op training and will help you in the long run. 6 months is also not that long to wait. You can message me whenever with questions or anything you need. Best of luck to you!

Oh most definitely. During the process of weight loss I continued to let people use me and do as they please and constantly convinced myself "they were good people." But then I learned, from a few good friends, that you have to take people at face value and STOP justifying their behavior. It really helped me say goodbye to people that were not making my life any better.

I had a good experience and they were pretty thorough, though I did turn to other clinics for support after surgery due to better support groups in other areas. Things change so I am not sure how they are now but I would feel them out and see what you think.
